Retractable Work Table Wheels
Many families or businesses have work tables which are large and difficult to move around. Wooden work tables, usually situated in a garage/workshop, often need to be transported from place to place to make room for other jobs or storage of a car or other workshop items.

Such work tables tend to be very heavy and difficult to move, particularly without assistance. If you are working alone and need to move the table, it needs to have the capability to be mobile. As such, installing retractable wheels is an excellent idea to help move the table when necessary and have it rest on the ground when in use.
The best way to do this is to attach a lever device. This involves cutting a piece of wood to measurement and using the wood and hinge to move the table up slightly to allow the attached wheels to touch the ground. If there wheels were permanently on the ground, the table would be unsteady.
When securing the wood lever use a liner to ensure the bolt doesn’t wear out the wood and then attach the bolts and washers to fix the device in place.
When you pull the wood panel down, the wheels will be able to operate and transport the table, without needing to push too much, lift or exert a strong force.
There are a number of videos and pictures online to help visualise this process better, but the idea is easy to make and has many benefits.
The main difficulty comes in measuring the wood and it may need a bit of trial and error before you are successful. The measurements depend on the size and weight of your table.
However, for a relatively simple job, a good quality work table can last many, many years and could be transported from building to building over this time. Investing a little time, and a small amount of money in to the extra retractable work table wheels or furniture castors will be worth it in the long run.
