Jacking Castors score Gold at the Olympics Opening Ceremony
The Olympics Opening Ceremony has been hailed as one of the Best of British events ever staged, and for a family firm in the East Midlands, that supplies castors and wheels, our hearts were in our mouths watching the spectacular event. For months we have had to keep secret that we supplied just fewer than 100 jacking castors to the Olympics Opening Ceremony.

For months we have had to keep secret that we supplied just fewer than 100 jacking castors to the Olympics Opening Ceremony. It was with baited breath we watched the ceremony unfold, and have to admit that for the majority of the show our eyes were firmly fixed on the moving mechanical elements, rather than the spectacular show itself!
When buying castors and wheels, and particularly jacking castors, there are some technical elements that are important to clarify. Such as the load bearing nature of heavy duty jacking castors, the floor surface it is running on, and the fact that jacking castors require simultaneous adjustment. However when dealing with the Olympic Opening Ceremonies committee none of these technical issues could be discussed. We were kept in the dark regarding floor surfaces and load bearings, however our eagle eyes spotted the jacking castors on several key elements of the ceremony. If you watched the show in its entirety, you will remember the Farmers cottage, the Voldemort section and the Suburban House Party Section. The sheer excitement of seeing your products on a world stage is indescribable! Thank goodness for the rewind and pause buttons!
Jacking castors are such a unique product that seems to have a multitude of uses. From moving pews in a cathedral, to relocating stunt ramps at Euro Disney. And yes I have to admit to taking photographs of stunt ramps at Euro Disney, because of the polyurethane jacking castors attached, rather than marvelling at the show. Much to my family’s annoyance! But I do find these pieces of manual handling equipment fascinating. Jacking castors are essentially wheels attached to a jack. This means that equipment can be jacked up, relocated and lowered into position as required by a simple jacking lever. From film production sets to shopping centres, jacking castors are a versatile piece of manoeuvrable equipment.
Part of the family of jacking castors are foot master casters. These levelling castors are much smaller and compact pieces of jacking equipment, combining a castor wheel and an anti-vibration rubber foot in one. Footmaster castors may be small, but they can pack a punch by being able to carry up to 750 kilograms each. With a wheel and rubber foot in one, footmaster castors are suitable on a variety of benches, conveyor systems and machinery. For ease of use the jacking mechanism can be achieved with either an integral ratchet or handwheel.
