Military Vehicle Repair Team (MVRT Europe) is one of the UK’s leading specialists for the service, maintenance, repair and restoration of military vehicles. Their latest project is returning a World War Two, American Super Sherman tank to its former glory, with a little help from Ross Handling.
The turret of an authentic Super Sherman tank weighs approximately 4.5 Tonnes and comes attached to a fragile ‘basket’ where the soldiers would have once stood. Safely dismantling such large equipment can be difficult work, which prompted company owner, Andy Ellis, to design a portable structure, using our extra heavy-duty, twin fabricated castors.
Andy Ellis explains, “We needed a strong, accessible structure to support the tank components during restoration with wheels that were up to the task. The 8000 series castors we purchased from Ross Handling fit nicely to the steel frame and make it entirely portable, allowing us to manoeuvre the turret both around and outside of the workshop.”
Since purchasing our extra heavy-duty twin fabricated swivel wheel castors and twin fabricated fixed wheel castors, Andy has also ordered a similar set of four fabricated industrial castors which are currently being used by MVRT Europe to transport and store the Super Sherman’s front transmission unit.
Andy Ellis concludes: “Ross offered the best product at the best price and I am over the moon. We have already recommended them to other people we know.”
