After a couple of drinks at their local pub in Hertfordshire, the team of five friends decided to try their luck at the Redbull Soapbox Race to raise money for charity, the Thirst Youth Café. But it wasn’t until they received confirmation of their place in mid-April that ‘The Thirst Quenchers’ began looking for winning wheels.
Team member, Clive Squirrell explains, “We contacted Ross and after a short conversation on the phone they sent us some products to sample. The wheels were the perfect match for what we wanted – and a lot better than what we had originally.”
The Heammerlin pneumatic wheelbarrow wheels chosen for Nellie’s soapbox featured an extra-large circumference with a metal spoked rim for strength. With the introduction of a water-jump in this year’s race, The Thirst Quenchers were grateful of their purchase. Clive explains, “Wheels were coming off or bursting all afternoon, but our pneumatic tyres gave us the edge on the water section while others were failing to stay in control. We managed to complete the course in 47 seconds and raised £800 for The Thirst Café.”
The Thirst Café is a charitable organisation which aims to provide a safe and engaging environment for the young residents and visitors of Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire.
Clive concludes, “The day was great fun – another one off the bucket list – and we couldn’t have done it without Ross Handling. The sales team were enthusiastic, helpful and really knew their stuff. We now have a great chassis to work from, the question is what comes next!”
