“Do you have castors small enough to fit on the back of a tortoise?” is just one of the more unusual requests for our products we have received over the last forty years!
Our products end up in all kinds of weird and wonderful places, so we thought we’d share with you just a few of the more unique applications…
1. Small castors were fixed to the back of a 30-year-old tortoise who had lost the use of her back legs. The worried owners came to Ross Handling for some advice on how to get the beloved pet back up to speed.
2. Puncture proof wheels were used to manoeuvre life-size plastic models of animals, which were to be used by fire and rescue, equine centres and veterinary colleges to facilitate training on how to approach and safely handle large animals in the event of an accident.
3. The symbolic procession of Richard III’s burial from Leicester University to Leicester Cathedral was a fitting tribute to one of the nation’s most legendary historical figures. So we were honoured to be asked to assist in positioning the giant tombstone using a complicated pulley system and our trusty castors.
4. We deliver our products all over the world including Europe, the Middle East and Australia and one of our international customers is the Norwegian Army. We weren’t told how the castors would be used but we can only imagine that they have seen the inside of some very secret operations!
These are just five of Ross Handling’s top weird and wonderful uses for castors, courtesy of our fantastic customers and creative team of experts.
